This Treat Made Me Give Up Ice Cream… And I’m Not Going Back

You might call me crazy, but I can honestly say that it wouldn’t be the end of the world if I could never eat ice cream again.

Now…I know what you’re thinking — you are crazy! But hear me out….

The reason I don’t care for ice cream anymore is because I found something exponentially better.

This frozen treat is just as creamy, sweet, crave-able, and satisfying as ice cream — but it’s naturally sugar and dairy-free (not to mention guilt-free).

 

You can also easily customize the flavors just like you would with regular ice cream with everything from raspberry, chocolate, peanut butter, coconut, mango…and the list go on.

And the best part is, this treat only takes 5 minutes to make, so you can enjoy it anytime.

I’m talking about “Nice” Cream, the creamy blended banana dessert that has taken the health food community by storm.

The reason this delectable delight is so amazing is because only 2 ingredients are required to make the “original” version. All you need are ripe, frozen bananas and liquid (like coconut water or unsweetened nut milk).

But if you want to experiment with any other flavors, feel free to blend in frozen berries, fruit, or even add a teaspoon of raw cacao for a rich, dark chocolate flavor.

So, to get you in the groove of “Nice Cream,” I’m going to share 2 recipes with you — a plain version and a jazzed up version.

 

Original Banana “Nice Cream”

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe banana, frozen (you know your bananas are ripe when they get brown spots)
  • 3 tablespoons of liquid like coconut water or unsweetened nut milk

*no additional sweetener is required, ripe bananas are naturally very sweet

How to Make It:

  1. Slice your bananas into pieces and freeze for at least 8 hours.

  2. Use a food processor to start blending the bananas. It’s best to use a processor with a dual-spinning blade, so the bananas get evenly pureed. If you are making more than 2 servings, you can also use a high-power blender such as a Ninja.

  3. Add 3 tablespoons of coconut water to make the blending smoother.

  4. Blend and add more liquid until desired consistency is achieved. It should be creamy, but not runny.

  5. Enjoy immediately.

Makes 1-2 Servings.

Tip: This recipe only works with ripe bananas. Bananas in their yellow stage are still too starchy to produce the sweet, creamy consistency you’re looking for.

Salted Maple Pecan Banana “Nice Cream”

This one’s for the indulgent days…

Ingredients:

  • Nice Cream
  • Pinch of sea salt
  • Maple syrup
  • Pecans

 

How to Make It:

  1. Follow the same steps as above to make “original” nice cream, except add a pinch of sea salt to the bananas while you are processing them.

  2. Top your nice cream with pecans and drizzle with maple syrup.

Makes 1-2 Servings.

Maple syrup is a natural antioxidant and mineral-rich sweetener, so this recipe does not call for processed sugar. Look for a grade A or B natural maple syrup (not just maple-flavored syrup) that hasn’t been mixed with any additional sugar or high fructose corn syrup .

These recipes are SO simple….but incredibly delicious.

And I love customizing my fillings and toppings — sometimes I even eat this potassium-rich “ice cream” for breakfast when I mix in protein-packed superfoods like spirulina, hemp hearts, or peanut butter.
